On March 18th, just after 7:30 p.m., within the 2300 Blk of Harford Road, Detective Michael Rice and his partners observed a bicycle-riding individual displaying the characteristics of an armed person.
When Detective Rice exited an unmarked police vehicle to approach, the suspect withdrew a .32 caliber revolver and fired upon him. Detective Rice was struck in the neck, with the bullet lodging near a lung. The suspect's actions were then halted by Detective Rice's partners who shot and critically wounded him.
As Detective Rice recovers the Baltimore Police Department would like to extend sincere and heartfelt wishes of a speedy recovery and support to him and his family. He, without hesitation, placed himself in harms way to protect the people of this city, and is a hero.
