Baltimore, MD (February 3, 2026) – The Baltimore Police Department (BPD) has launched a new Citywide Traffic Team (CTT), dedicated to reducing traffic-related fatalities, serious injuries, and dangerous driving behaviors across Baltimore.

The Citywide Traffic Team’s mission is to enhance public safety and quality of life through equitable, data-driven enforcement of traffic laws, collision investigation, community education, and collaboration with partner agencies. The team prioritizes the safety of all road users, including motorists, pedestrians, and bicyclists, while fostering safer streets and promoting compliance with traffic laws.

CTT’s enforcement efforts will focus on the behaviors linked to serious and fatal crashes, including speeding, impaired driving, distracted driving, reckless and aggressive driving, and violations at intersections, school zones, and pedestrian crossings. Additionally, the team will assist in traffic enforcement of improper use Virigina License Plates by Maryland residents. Operations are guided by crash data and will incorporate community feedback to ensure resources are deployed where they are needed most.

In addition to enforcement, the Citywide Traffic Team will work closely with city agencies, transportation planners, public health partners, and community organizations to support education, outreach, and long-term traffic safety solutions.

Traffic enforcement conducted by the Citywide Traffic Team will be behavior-based with a strong commitment to equity, professionalism, and community trust. Through targeted enforcement, education, and collaboration, the Department aims to prevent traffic-related deaths and serious preventable injuries within the City of Baltimore.

CTT will assist in ongoing traffic initiatives that are being completed by patrol. In 2025, the department saw a 75% increase in traffic enforcement, which included nearly 11,000 citations given to Maryland drivers with Virginia License Plates.

Since the launch of CTT on January 18, 2026, officers have initiated more than 400 traffic stops and issued nearly 370 moving violations*.

This enforcement includes:

72 Repair Orders Issued
334 Warnings Issued
10 Parking Citations
One DUI Arrest

15 Towed Vehicles

*As of January 27, 2026.

CTT’s Mission Statement: The Citywide Traffic Team envisions Baltimore as a city where everyone can travel safely, regardless of neighborhood, mode of transportation, or time of day, and where traffic-related deaths and serious injuries are preventable, unacceptable, and ultimately eliminated through shared responsibility and effective public safety practices.
