Baltimore Police Announces New Entertainment District Unit to Enhance Safety and Quality of Life
Baltimore, MD (August 28, 2025) – The Baltimore Police Department (BPD) has launched a new Entertainment District Unit (EDU), designed to enhance livability and ensure enjoyable experiences for residents and visitors in Baltimore’s most active entertainment zones.
The specialized unit will provide a high-visibility presence, focused enforcement and community policing strategies to reduce crime, address nuisance issues and strengthen partnerships with local businesses, residents, and city agencies.
“The Entertainment District Unit is about more than just enforcement, it’s about creating safe, welcoming spaces where people can enjoy all the great things that Baltimore has to offer,” said Police Commissioner Richard Worley. “Through proactive policing and collaboration, we’re working to reduce crime, address quality-of-life concerns, while building stronger connections with our community and partners.”
The unit’s responsibilities will include:
- Proactive parking and traffic enforcement
- Addressing dirt bike activity
- Seizing illegal firearms
- Conducting business checks
- Issuing citations to include open container violations and other quality-of-life concerns
- Engaging with community members to identify and resolve chronic nuisance issues
The Entertainment District Unit, which was launched on August 10, operates during evening and day shifts, and serves as a specialized supplement to patrol operations. EDU currently covers the core entertainment areas in Downtown Baltimore to include the Inner Harbor, Federal Hill, Harbor Point and Fells Point. In the future, the unit will expand to the Canton Square entertainment area and the Casino and Baltimore Stadiums (Camden Yards and M&T Bank Stadium).
Since the launch of EDU, officers have completed more than 1,110 business checks and 1,160 foot patrols.
They have also:
• issued 72 traffic and parking citations,
• issued six open container citations,
• seized three handguns, and
• made seven arrests.
The new unit reflects BPD’s commitment to reducing crime, improving quality of life and fostering trust through a blend of enforcement, engagement and collaboration.
