Major Derek Loeffler
Major Derek Loeffler has served with the Baltimore Police Department since 2006. He started his career as a patrol officer in the Southeastern District and then was assigned to the District Detective Section conducting criminal investigations in the Northeastern District. 
Major Loeffler was promoted to sergeant in 2011 and returned to the Southeastern District as a patrol supervisor. He later worked in the offices of two Police Commissioners over the course four years before being promoted to the rank of lieutenant in 2017. After his promotion to lieutenant, he was assigned to the Northwestern District, where he served as a patrol shift commander. He was later assigned to the Chief of Patrol’s Office before being promoted to captain in January 2019. He served as a Captain at the Northwestern District and most recently served as the executive officer for the Deputy Commissioner of Operations.
Major Loeffler holds a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of Minnesota and a master’s degree in Management from Johns Hopkins University. He and his wife, Hillary, have two young sons.
