Western District Shooting Investigation

On June 6, 2023, at approximately 6:28 p.m., officers responded to the 3500 block of Holmes Avenue to investigate a report of a shooting.

Upon arrival, officers located a 34-year-old male suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his right elbow and abdomen. Medics transported the victim to an area hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Western District Shooting detectives responded and assumed control over this investigation.

Western District Homicide Investigation

On June 6, 2023, at approximately 6:23 p.m., officers were patrolling the 1300 block of Booth Street when officers witnessed a shooting.

Officers located a 21-year-old male suffering from gunshot wounds to his legs in the unit block of North Carey Street. A second victim, 46-year-old Kimberly Benjamin, was located at the intersection of McHenry Street and South Carey Street, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the head. Medics transported both victims to area hospitals for treatment of their injuries.

Despite lifesaving measures, hospital staff pronounced victim Kimberly Benjamin deceased on June 7, 2023.   

An unidentified male suspect was arrested at the intersection of McHenry Street and South Carey Street and is currently a possible person of interest.

Northern District Shooting Investigation

On June 6, 2023, at approximately 1:55 a.m., Northern District patrol officers responded to an area hospital for a report of a walk-in shooting victim.

Once there, officers located a 50-year-old male suffering from a graze wound to the leg.

At this time a crime scene has not been located.
