Northeast District Homicide Arrest

In reference to the homicide that occurred in the Northeast District on March 1, 2024, investigators have arrested 23-year-old Derek Steele of Baltimore.

Detectives learned that Steele fatally shot 55-year-old Johnny Small while in the 5300 block of Frankford Avenue, following a dispute.

On March 11, 2024, with the assistance of Foxtrot, Northeast and Southwest District Action Team officers arrested Derek Steele while in the 1700 block of West Baltimore Street. Steele is currently being held at the Central Booking Intake Facility where he was charged with first-degree murder.

Steele is currently being held without bail.

Northeast District Homicide Investigation

On March 1, 2024, at approximately 1:05 p.m., officers responded to the 5400 block of Sinclair Lane to investigate a call for a shooting.

Upon arrival, officers observed a 55-year-old male suffering from a gunshot wound. Medics transported the victim to an area hospital where, despite life-saving measures, he was pronounced deceased.

Homicide detectives responded and assumed control over this investigation.
