Northern District Homicide Arrest

In reference to the homicide that occurred in the Northern District on April 21, 2024, investigators have arrested 59-year-old Patrick Cromwell of Baltimore.

Investigators learned that Cromwell fatally stabbed and killed 77-year-old Joseph Barranco while in the 900 block of West University Parkway.

Cromwell was arrested at the scene and was transported to the Central Booking Intake Facility where he was charged with murder in the first degree.

Original Advisory

On April 21, 2024, at around 7:54 a.m., officers received a call to the 900 block of West University Parkway to investigate a call for an aggravated assault by cutting.

Upon arrival, officers located an unresponsive 77-year-old male suffering from life-threatening lacerations to his body. Medics arrived and pronounced the victim deceased on the scene.

A 59-year-old male suspect was taken into police custody on the scene.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect had reported to dispatchers that he had cut someone and believes he is deceased.

Homicide detectives responded and assumed control over this investigation. The Medical Examiner’s Office responded and took possession of the victim’s body and will determine the cause of death.
