District Information

Druid Hill Park Reservoir

The Northern District has some of the most affluent neighborhoods in Baltimore, including Roland Park and Guilford. Other notable neighborhoods include Hampden, which hosts the annual “Hon Fest,” and Charles Village, home to The Johns Hopkins University Homewood Campus. The Baltimore Museum of Art and Wyman Park may also be found in this District.

The Maryland Zoo, located in the 745-acre Druid Hill Park is considered the country’s third-oldest zoo. Druid Hill Park is one of the country’s oldest landscaped public parks and features athletic fields, swimming pools, a disc golf course, picnic groves and the Rawlings Conservatory and Botanic Gardens.

Other institutions of higher learning in the District are Loyola University Maryland and the Notre Dame of Maryland University.

Major Azalee N. Johnson

Major Azalee Johnson

Major Azalee N. Johnson has been appointed as the District Commander of the Northern District. A Baltimore native, she has served with the Department for more than 20 years and was previously with the Executive Officer of the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Operations Bureau. Other previous assignments include Central District, Chief of Patrol Office, Western District, Central Records Section, Education & Training Section, Neighborhood Services Division, Criminal Investigation Division and Compliance Bureau. Most notably, she served as the agency’s first Crisis Intervention Team coordinator where she assisted with the creation and implementation of the Crisis Response Team. She has earned an associate’s degree in the field of Licensed Practical Nursing from the Community College of Baltimore County. She also earned a Medical Assistant certificate from the Medix School and a certificate in Criminal Justice from the University of Maryland University College. During her tenure she received numerous recognitions and awards to include the Maryland State Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) Office of the Year Award and lifesaving award.

Captain Henrietta Middleton

Captain Henrietta Middleton

Captain Henrietta Middleton has been appointed as the Executive Officer of the Northern District. Born in Charleston, S.C., she has been a member of the Baltimore Police Department for 16 years, with her most recent assignments being Executive Officers of the Western District and the Baker Shift Commander in the Northeast District. Her previous assignments include Northern District (Administrative Sergeant and D.D.U. Sergeant), Special Investigation Response Team (S.I.R.T), Internal Affairs and the Northwest District. Captain Middleton attended Morgan State University, where she studied Biology with a minor in Chemistry and Psychology.
